Conventional ceiling systems are responsible for approx. 40% of CO2 emissions in multi-story buildings. Due to requirements regarding sound insulation, the individual construction layers are often firmly connected to each other, or a CO2-intensive, non-reversible cement-based screed is frequently used to introduce the necessary mass into the ceiling.
That steps we will undertake during the CBI Booster Program are: – Development of an earth screed for the base and final layer based on CDW without addition of chemical additives. – Maximise the fraction of CDW to minimise CO2 emissions, while ensuring that no harmful substances from CDW will be included in the recycling content.
As a naturally circular construction material, earth offers substantial potential for reducing emissions. The earth screed developed from recycled minerals will repurpose a former waste product, create new application possibilities, reduce the need for primary resource extraction, and enable truly circular ceiling construction.
