Introducing nature-based Infrastructure

SysTEAMatik
This project develops a schema for digital planning to enable the early integration of nature-based infrastructure into construction projects. By including nature-based elements as high-performing infrastructure components from the outset, it aims to reduce reliance on technical systems, regenerate natural resources, and enhance urban resilience. A publicly accessible Use Case will document key interfaces and planning dependencies, making nature-based solutions easier to implement across disciplines and project phases.
During the CBI Booster Program, we will consolidate existing knowledge from digital construction and multiple disciplines using transdisciplinary methods and collaborative processes. Our goal is to develop a Meta-UseCase for the integration of nature-based infrastructure, to be published on the international UseCase platform. We will validate our target framework, assess how well key topics are represented in current digital planning tools, and focus on the interplay between interior and exterior spaces. The result will be a process model that identifies integration pathways, gaps, and actionable fields for further UseCases and practical tools.
By minimizing technical systems and regenerating ecosystems, the project reduces resource use and supports circular design. It promotes nature-based infrastructure as an integral part of planning, enabling sustainable, climate-resilient spaces and closing resource loops in the built environment.
